GeForce GTX 680 Overclocking

Wie viel Leistung lässt sich heraus kitzeln

Overclocking auf einer GeForce GTX 680 funktioniert etwas anders als man es von bisherigen Grafikkarten kennt. Konnte man früher beim Overclocking einfach eine höhere Taktrate festlegen, mit der die Karte laufen sollte, so muss man bei der GeForce GTX 680 nun einen Offset zum Base-Clock angeben. Man sagt der Karte also nicht mehr wie bisher "Takte mit genau X MHz" sondern "Takte mit Y MHz mehr" zum Base-Clock von 1006 MHz.

Was sich zunächst quasi gleich anhört, macht einen großen Unterschied. Wie wir bereits im Abschnitt zu GPU-Boost gesehen haben, ist der Takt der GeForce GTX 680 nicht fest. Die Karte taktet also ständig rauf und runter. Das heißt wenn wir einen Offset von 100 MHz mehr angeben taktet die Karte nicht unbedingt auch Base-Clock + 100 oder Bost-Clock + 100 sondern irgendwo in einem Bereich über dem Boost-Clock. Am besten schaut man sich an, welchen maximalen Takt die Karte ohne Offset fährt und kann daraus recht gut ableiten wo die Karte mit Overclocking maximal landen wird. In unserem OC-Beispiel in der GPU-Boost Sektion taktete unser Sample Nummer 1 maximal bis 1137 MHz und mit einem Offset von 150 MHz dann maximal bis 1287 MHz.

Genau wie beim "alten" Overclocking, stürzt die Karte ab, wenn man den Offset zu hoch einstellt. Damit man allerdings überhaupt etwas vom Overclocking hat, sollte man natürlich auch das Powerlimit der Karte erhöhen, denn sonst wird deutlich früher wieder herunter geregelt.

In unseren Overclocking versuchen mit 150 Mhz mehr Referenztakt erreichte die Karte dann mit einem auf Maximum gesetzten Power-Limit ein Performance-Plus von bis zu 15%. Damit sind die Karte doch recht gut übertaktbar, kommen aber an das extreme Overclocking-Potential der Radeon HD 7970 und 7950 nicht heran.
