Pressemitteilung RadiSys Announces the Industry's First micro ATX Motherboard for Intel® Pentium® M Processors The Endura LS855 motherboard, based on Intel's latest mobile computing technology, delivers high performance at very low power
TOKYO - July 7, 2003 - Today at the Embedded Systems Expo & Conference, RadiSys Corp. (Nasdaq: RSYS) announced the Endura LS855 motherboard, the industry's first, standard microATX motherboard to support Intel's new range of mobile Pentium® M processors. The LS855 motherboard now expands the Endura range of motherboards to address the needs of embedded, low power, computing applications such as point of sale terminals, kiosks, ATM machines, lottery terminals, medical equipment, industrial control and test and measurement applications. These applications also demand a rich set of I/O functionality along with ECC memory. Today OEMs are designing embedded equipment destined for environments where low power consumption and low heat emission are paramount. Whether this is a point of sale terminal in a retail shop, patient monitoring device, robotics controller in an automotive manufacturing plant or kiosk terminal in an airport, the requirements are the same. The equipment needs 1) to have long life, 2) to provide a cost-effective solution with low total cost of ownership, 3) to have excellent backup with engineering support and revision control and 4) to be manufactured to high quality standards. Unlike commercial motherboard manufacturers, RadiSys is able to meet all these needs by offering a superior level of support and long life products available for 5+ years. The LS855 motherboard is designed for high performance using the Intel® Pentium M processor, which provides a scalable solution with enhanced power and performance optimizations. In fact the 1.6GHz Pentium M processor has been optimized to provide a SPECint performance of 1.4 times that of the Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor - M at 2.2GHz with a lower power (watts) consumption. The Pentium M processor enables very low power operation by dynamically adjusting voltage and frequency to suit the loading on the CPU. Low power operation reduces heat output, enabling embedded system designers to use passive cooling solutions without the need for fansinks and therefore increasing system reliability. The LS855 motherboard also has a high degree of integration with dual independent video outputs, including a native LVDS flat panel interface. This reduces cost and eliminates the risk of short life display adapters. An example application is a kiosk using one display for the user interface and a second display for a video feed. ECC memory support also provides the extra level of protection and system reliability that is important for transaction terminals and some industrial control applications. "We've designed the LS855 motherboard using Intel's latest mobile computing technology. This expands the Endura product line to address low power embedded applications which is important for many of our customers," said Fred Yentz, vice president for RadiSys. "This is a key strategy for the company and our customers depend on us to deliver leading edge, cost effective, embedded solutions that help them maximize budgets and improve their time to market." With the addition of the LS855 to the Endura product line of long life, embedded motherboards, RadiSys is able to offer a one stop shop for its customers, with solutions for all embedded computing segments. The RadiSys Endura product line includes motherboards that incorporate a variety of Intel® processors including Intel® Xeon™ processors for high performance, mid-range scalable Pentium® 4 processors, Celeron® processors and low power, mobile Pentium® M processors.
