Warner wendet sich von HD-DVD ab

Bislang hatte Warner seine Filme auf HD-DVD und Blu-ray veröffentlicht (und natürlich auf DVD), nun gab das Unternehmen bekannt, dass man zukünftig neben der DVD nur noch Blu-ray unterstützen werde. Bis zum Ende des Monats Mai 2008 wird es Filme im hochauflösenden Format noch auf Blu-ray und HD-DVD geben. Danach wird Warner diese exklusiv auf Blu-ray veröffentlichen.

In einer Pressemitteilung heißt es:

"Warner Bros.' move to exclusively release in the Blu-ray disc format is a strategic decision focused on the long term and the most direct way to give consumers what they want. The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers."

Die HD-DVD wird somit bald nur noch exklusiv von Universal, Paramount und Dreamworks unterstützt. Das Blu-ray Lager kann sich über die exklusive Unterstützung von Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, MGM, Disneay und nun also bald auch Warner freuen.

Dies dürfte ein herber Schlag für die HD-DVD sein.
