Samsung teilte heute mit, dass man als erstes Unternehmen DDR2-Speichermodule produziert. "DDR2 is a viable technology and will play an important role in enabling the development of a new generation of feature-rich, high-speed gaming PCs, servers and network computers".

Pressemitteilung Samsung Announces Mass Production of DDR2 Industrys first 1 GigaByte DDR2 DIMM offers high speed and low power necessary for next-generation PCs and servers Seoul Korea, March 24, 2003: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s leader in advanced semiconductor memory technology, today moved to make DDR2 technology a reality for designers of next generation chipsets with the announcement that Samsung has begun mass production of the industry’s first 1GigaByte (GB) DDR2 Dual in-Line Memory Module (DIMM), which is based on 512Mb DDR2 components. “DDR2 is a viable technology and will play an important role in enabling the development of a new generation of feature-rich, high-speed gaming PCs, servers and network computers,” said Tom Quinn, Samsung’s US Vice President of Memory Sales and Marketing. “Samsung is ready to meet the requirements of high-speed, low-power memory solutions for tomorrow’s chipsets.“ The availability of a DDR2 memory solution in production volume, which features a 4-bit pre-fetch delivering twice the external bandwidth of DDR solution for the same internal frequency, will speed the industry’s transition from DDR. The 1.8-volt device features a high-speed data transfer rate of 533Mbps that can be extended to 667Mbps for networks and special system environments. Samsung first shipped engineering samples of a JEDEC standard compliant 512Mb DDR2 SDRAM to major chipset developers last May. The SDRAM incorporates JEDEC’s DDR2 specifications by adding core functions that include off-chip driver calibration (OCD) to maintain optimum driver strength; on-die termination (ODT) to ensure optimum signal waveform; and posted CAS, a command control method to enhance bus efficiency. In 2001, JEDEC presented Samsung with an award recognizing the company’s leadership and pioneering role in the development of DDR technology as well as its contribution to the standardization of DDR-SDRAM. Samsung currently has more industry-validated DDR SDRAM devices than any other manufacturer.
