Pressemitteilung Computex Taipei 2004 - Final Stats Chalks up 18% growth! Breaks All-time Record!!! TAIPEI, TAIWAN, June 5, 2004– Records across the board were made at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2004 —the world’s second largest IT event that closed a five-day sensational run across the digital world. The final international buyer count of 26,222 buyers at COMPUTEX TAIPEI ’04 has set a new records for total buyer participation over all previous events, according to TAIRA (The Taiwan External Trade Development Council) the main organizer. A total of 118,053 visitors came to the show, the combined attendance figures for international buyers and local professionals from June 1 to 5. Buyers at COMPUTEX TAIPEI ‘04 showed a 18% rise over last year’s event, which had a 22,250-buyer turnout. The record buyer attendance was a remarkable endorsement for the event, the industry, and Taiwan. A break down of buyers by nation of origin, the USA places in number one ranking with 3,856 buyers attending the five-day show, followed by Japan’s 3,335, Hong Kong’s 1,822, Korea’s 1,656, and Singapore’s 895. Covering four halls of the Taipei World Trade Center complex, this year’s COMPUTEX TAIPEI has broken all its records, including those for the number of exhibitors, the number of booths, and area of show floor space. With growing popularity, COMPUTEX TAIPEI this year attracted several new major international firms as exhibitors. For the first time, Infineon, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Toshiba, Agilent Technologies, Ricoh, Sanyo Denki, and Moserbaer India showcased their products joining a total of 1,347 local and foreign firms. Owing to the limited exhibition facilities provided in Taipei, the organizers had tried their very best to utilize all possible exhibition space in order to assist IT companies to gain maximum exhibition opportunities at COMPUTEX TAIPEI. And, good news! A new exhibition building, named Taipei Nan-gang Exhibition Center, was announced by TAITRA Chairman Mr. C. J. Hsu at the Opening Ceremony of this show. The new exhibition center with a capacity of more than 2,600 booths is expected to be completed by August 2006. "By that time, not only will the space shortage problem of COMPUTEX TAIPEI be solved, it (the Taipei Nan-gang Exhibition Center) will also elevate the overall quality of the Show’s service," said Mr. Hsu. COMPUTEX TAIPEI ’04 highlights included the rise of Digital Home appliances, innovations in PC multimedia applications, the launch of motherboards based on PCI Express technology and the rise of DDRII memory modules into the background. Just like Mr. Stan Shih, Chairman of The Acer Group, pointed out in his special address at the Opening Ceremony, "the convergence of the personal computer and television will create significantly new markets in the digital home arena. Digital home products not only present hope for consumer-electronic companies, they also provide grand opportunities for expansions in the PC market." The general reaction on the show floor has been positive. Visitors indicate that things must be looking up in Taiwan because many of the exhibitors have spent more on their booth decoration this year. Buyers at the show were largely impressed by the massive procuring opportunity for innovative products and the heart-warming service. The next COMPUTEX TAIPEI will be staged from May 31 to June 4, 2005. That event will go even further to maximize opportunities for all exhibitors. Meanwhile, it’s paving the way forward by launching the daily needed innovations which mean so much to so many! See you next May 31 at COMPUTEX TAIPEI ’05!
