Aufruf zum Internet Explorer 7 Boykott

Microsoft hat mehrere Jahre lang den Browser nicht verändert oder gepflegt und lässt nun die große Chance verstreichen, den IE7 den aktuellen Anforderungen und Web-Standards anzupassen, was Thurrott anprangert. Auslöser war die Bekanntgabe von Chris Wilson in einem Blog, dass der neue Browser auch nach Fertigstellung den Acid-2-Test des Web Standards Projects nicht bestehen wird.

Paul Thurrot hält den IE7 für ein "Krebsgeschwür, dass gestoppt werden muss" und rät zum Boykott:

"My advice is simple: Boycott IE. It's a cancer on the Web that must be stopped. IE isn't secure and isn't standards-compliant, which makes it unworkable both for end users and Web content creators. Because of their user bases, however, Web developers are hamstrung into developing for IE at the expense of established standards that work well in all other browsers. You can turn the tide by demanding more from Microsoft and by using a better alternative Web browser. I recommend and use Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari (Macintosh only) and Opera 8 are both worth considering as well."

TweakPC Kommentar: Manche lernen's nie. Eigentlich müsste Microsoft angesichts der abwandernden Anwender zu Firefox und Co schon germerkt haben, was die Stunde schlägt. Offenbar hält man sich aber für etwas besonderes. Ob diese Arroganz der richtige Weg ist, ist wohl mehr als fragwürdig.
