Die Taiwanesische Firma FIC präsentiert, basierend auf der Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC edition, einen Tablet PC. Mit einem 1GHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, 256MB DDR SDRAM, bis zu 30GB Festplatte, einem 10,4" TFT Touchscreen Display und einem Gewicht von nur 1,35kg wird die neue Generation von tragbaren PCs und eBooks eingeläutet.

(FIC) is pleased to announce the launch of SlateVision, a new 1GHz Tablet PC, based on the revolutionary Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP Tablet PC edition operating system. The Tablet PC is a completely new concept in portable computing that eliminates the need for mouse and keyboard. President of the FIC Networking and Information Group, Gene Sheu, is keen to promote the new Tablet PC concept, commenting, has invested a lot of time and effort into producing the SlateVision 1GHz Tablet PC. "This product is the result of many months of research and development and the end result is a completely new type of portable PC that will literally revolutionize the way people work." Chairman of FIC, Dr Ming J Chien is equally excited about the SlateVision product claiming, "The SlateVision Tablet PC is a truly inspirational computing concept, designed to be used anytime and anywhere." Unlike a conventional laptop, which relies on traditional mouse and keyboard, the Tablet PC incorporates advanced handwriting recognition technology. Using and interacting with a Tablet PC can be as simple as writing on a piece of paper. Of course, a keyboard and mouse can be connected if required, but all tasks traditionally associated with a mouse or keyboard can now be performed using the advanced EMD pen straight on the Tablet PC screen. Digital Ink technology makes all this possible. Windows(r) XP Tablet PC edition: At the heart of all Tablet PCs is the most advanced operating system that Microsoft(r) has ever produced. Windows(r) XP Tablet PC edition is a superset of Windows(r) XP Professional and has added functionality to allow new methods of interaction. Digital Ink technology means users can use their own handwriting to create e-mail, take notes or append Microsoft(r) Office documents. Handwriting can be converted to text or stored as handwriting. On the move: The SlateVision Tablet PC is the most practical mobile PC available today. As powerful as the PC on your desk and capable of running all the same software, the SlateVision Tablet PC lets you put your office in your briefcase for the first time. With a SlateVision Tablet PC, you can work just about anywhere. Taking your business to your clients has never been so easy. The SlateVision Tablet PC will run demonstrations, presentations and point of sale (POS) applications just like a regular PC. At Work: In the office the SlateVision Tablet PC is ideal for taking notes or giving presentations in meetings and connecting to the office network is no problem with the on-board 10/100 Ethernet port or wireless LAN. At Home: The 10.4" XGA TFT LCD touch screen is ideal for reading e-books. The built-in 56K modem can connect you to the internet via phone line for home browsing. SlateVision is equipped with a 1GHz Transmeta Crusoe processor, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 20 or 30 GB HDD, 10.4" XGA TFT LCD touch screen with EMD pen, mini VGA port, 2x USB 1.1 ports, 1x PCMCIA type II slot, 1xIEEE 1394 interface, on-board 56k v90 modem, wireless LAN 802.11b and 10/100 Ethernet. SlateVision measures just 286mm x 216mm x 27mm and weighs only 1.35Kg. The 6 cell, 3600mAH, lithium-ion battery provides approx. 4 hrs battery life and requires 2.5-3 hrs charging time. The high capacity battery means that even power intensive functions like wireless LAN networking can be supported for up to 3 hours. FIC will be focusing primarily on vertical markets with the SlateVision Tablet PC. Already customers exist in he medical and education fields.
